Pine Prairie residents passed a two percent sales tax for roads during an election o Saturday, March 30, 2019.
The tax, which passed by a vote of 113-4, is one that is dedicated to for the purpose of construction, maintenance, and repair of public streets and roadways within the village, and has been in place in the community since the 1990’s.
There was some controversy originally that surrounded this tax after the village’s mayor, Quint West, discovered the sales tax had expired, but continued to be collected and distributed by the sales tax commission.
Nonetheless, Pine Prairie residents showed major support for the tax by passing it Saturday.
Following the elections, Mayor Quint West said, “I just want to thank the residents of Pine Prairie for showing confidence in myself, the council and our chief of police by passing this tax that is vital to the success of our community.”
