MAMOU -- The Mamou Lady Demons remained atop the District 5-3A standing with a key 5-3 win over the Eunice Lady Bobcats Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Mamou moves to 14-6 on the season and 8-2 in district play. The Lady Demons will travel to Church Point on Tuesday to take on the Lady Bears.
Eunice threatened in the top of the first, getting their second batter to reach second base. Starting Mamou pitcher Dacia Richard would not allow the Lady Bobcats to take it much farther, as she retired the next two batters on ground balls.
The Lady Demons took advantage of the scoreless half inning from Eunice, collecting the first two runs of the game in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Emily Soileau reached first on a base hit. Taylor Douget then proceeded to smash a pitch over the outfield wall for a two-run home run.
A scoreless second greeted both Eunice and Mamou. In the top of the third inning, the Lady Bobcats cut the Lady Demon lead in half, scoring a single run. The big hit was a double by Olivia Thibodeaux.
Mamou increased their advantage in the bottom half of the inning by picking up two more runs. The Lady Demons added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth when Tierane Thomas doubled and later scored on a single by Sydney Bruney.
Eunice tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh, plating two runs of their own. However, the Mamou defense shut down the threat.
