HONOLULU -- This Saturday the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will make the 4,000 mile trip to Honolulu, Hawaii to take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the 17th annual Hawaii Bowl.
This makes the 11th time the Bulldogs have played in a post-season bowl game since 1978. La Tech has appeared in a bowl game for the last four years in a row under head coach Skip Holtz and have won every year, the last being a 51-10 win over SMU in the Frisco Bowl last season.
Former Basile High graduate Tommy McClelland is the current Athletic Director for La Tech.
The Bulldogs come into the game with an overall record of 7-5 and 5-3 in Conference USA play. La Tech has lost three of the last four regular season games.
The Bulldogs are led by quarterback J’Mar Smith who has thrown for 2,875 yards and 14 touchdowns. Wide out Adrian Hardy has 69 catches for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns, while Jaqwis Dancy leads all rushers with 634 yards on 109 carries and nine touchdowns.
Hawaii finished the year with an overall record of 8-5 and a Mountain West Conference record of 5-3. After starting the year 6-1, the Rainbow Warriors were 2-4 in their last six games.
Hawaii quarterback Cole McDonald has 3,790 yards passing and 35 touchdowns. Wide receiver John Ursa has caught 89 passes for 1,343 yards and 16 touchdowns. Running back Dayton Futura leads all rushers with 463 yards on 90 carries and has scored two touchdowns.
