Government set to reopen for three week period

The month long partial government shutdown took a turn Friday as President Donald Trump and congressional leaders reached a deal to reopen the government for a three week period. The deal would include back pay for the more than 800,000 federal employees affected by the partial shutdown.
The deal; however, does not include funding for the president’s proposed border wall. That issue will be volleyed around by a committee of lawmakers from both parties.
The government will remain open until February 15 and will again partially close if no permanent agreement is reached by that date.
“I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” said President Trump Friday from the Rose Garden of the White House. “(Congress) is willing to put partisanship aside, I think, and put the security of the American people first.”
