A pillar in the community for her efforts in the Pro-Life Walk and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel has succumbed to her battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Winifred Ann “Pitchy” Tuminaro entered eternal rest Tuesday morning at the age of 74. Her funeral was held Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church.
Theresa Attales, along with Tuminaro, started the chapel at the request of Fr. Michael Jarrell, who at the time was pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte.
“He asked Pitchy and I to start the chapel because we had made the Cursillo and worked in the Cursillo movement,” Attales said.
Attales added Tuminaro was coordinator of the chapel and had become a close friend. “I worked right on the side of her, and we were the best of friends. We travelled a lot, and she will be greatly missed.”
Tuminaro leaves behind three children, Joseph John Tuminaro, III and wife, Tammy Tuminaro, Melissa Ann Tuminaro, and Mary Elizabeth Tuminaro; and her four grandchildren, Margeaux Rebecca Marks, Joseph John Tuminaro, IV, Samuel Luke Tuminaro, and Anna Grace Tuminaro.
She also left behind a request for the Rosary to be prayed every hour on the hour at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Tuesday evening because she did not like people talking at funeral homes.
