On Thursday, June 14, 2018, John Isaac Foret appeared before 13th Judicial District Judge Gary Ortego for his arraignment.
During the hearing, Foret entered a plea of not guilty on one count of second degree murder.
Foret was indicted on a murder charge by an Evangeline Parish Grand Jury on May 30, 2018, after he was involved in an incident in Turkey Creek that resulted in the death of Edwin Wesley Snoddy. The killing took place on May 18, 2018, in the yard of the victim’s home located on Snoddy Lane.
Foret, of Ville Platte, was not immediately arrested after the incident. He was; however, picked up by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office on May 21, 2018, and charged with impeding a witness in this matter.
Originally, Foret was assigned attorney Jacob Fusilier as his public defender.
However, in court on Thursday, out of town attorney Mike Small enrolled as Foret’s council. Fusilier will continue to assist the defense team in this matter.
Foret, who is currently being held without bond, was set to have a bond reduction hearing on July 5, 2018.
