The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested one individual in connection with an altercation that occurred at the Lakewood Apartments just outside of the Basile town limits on April 18, 2019.
Arrested as a suspect in this matter was Arthur E. Flanders of 1701 W. Stagg Avenue, Basile.
On Monday, April 22, Major Jeremy Mitchell, with the EPSO, said the sheriff’s office received a complaint in regard to this incident at around 11:11 p.m. last Thursday. He said, upon arrival at the home where the altercation ensued, a deputy noticed a white male on the floor with lacerations along the left side of his face and bruises on his face.
According to the victim’s statement, the victim alleged his injuries were a result of rings Flanders was wearing when the altercation took place. At one point during the incident, the suspect picked up a knife, but the victim was not harmed with the weapon.
Following the incident the victim was transported by Acadian Ambulance to a hospital in Jennings where he was treated for his injuries.
Mitchell said, a tip regarding the suspect in this matter was received by St. Landry Crime Stoppers, who forwarded it to the EPSO. Flanders ultimately turned himself into the Basile Police Department the following night (Friday, April 19, 2019), and was transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail.
Flanders was booked on one count of aggravated battery (felony), and his bond has been set by 13th Judicial District Judge Chuck West at $20,000.
Investigating this matter is EPSO Detective Allen James.
