Fire District moves forward on expansions at Faubourg station

After clearing hurdles with the state over the issue of culverts regarding the expansion project of the Faubourg Fire Station, the Evangeline Fire District Two Board now faces more hurdles over not getting prices from contractors.
According to board member Ted Demoruelle, the contractors keep asking questions that the board cannot answer. To streamline the process, Demoruelle has requested J. Ronald Landreneau and Associates to oversee the project. The plans now include using rebar and keyway joints on the expansions.
“Hopefully, for next meeting, everybody ought to have their prices, and we can start the process,” Demoruelle said.
He then advised the board that he had modified the plans for the expansion to include an extended 60 feet, two offices through the front door, a window on each side, a utility storage, an additional bathroom, and storage on the other side.
The board approved the plans and approved going to the next phase of the project. Demoruelle also stated that the board will “have to hire an attorney and go before the bonding commission to get approval to sell bonds.”
The board earlier in the meeting heard from Chief Chris Harrison that the fire rating is set for August 7 and 8 and went into executive session to discuss a personnel matter. The board table the issue, and no other action was taken on the matter.
