The Evangeline Parish School Board held its regular bimonthly meeting on Wednesday and discussed changes to high school physical education uniforms and bullet proof backpacks.
During the meeting, the board’s president, Wayne Dardeau, explained that t-shirt printing businesses have contacted him asking where they can get a copy of the artwork being used on the new parish-wide P.E. uniforms.
Evangeline Parish School Superintendent Darwan Lazard then shared that businesses interested in selling the new uniforms, which were approved by the board back in May, can contact the school board office at (337) 363-6651 and request a copy of the digital artwork that will be used on the shirts.
The superintendent also informed the board that a recent law was passed by the Louisiana State Legislature that allows students to carry bullet resistent backpacks.
Last month, the board created a new policy that requires all students in the Evangeline Parish School District to use clear or mesh backpacks.
If students wish to purchase bullet resistent backpacks, the superintendent said they must still be see through.
During the superintendents closing comments, Lazard informed the board that the first day of the 2018-2019 school year will be on Tuesday, August 7th, for teachers and Thursday, August 9th, for students.
Lazard then reminded the public that due to the 4th of July holiday, there will be no school board meeting the first Wednesday in July.
The board’s next meeting has been set for July 18, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.
Items approved at the meeting were:
