The State announced on Thursday that it stands ready for trial in its case against a Mamou man facing drug charges, as well as charges for flight from an officer and resisting an officer.
The defendant, Dustin Hamous, is being represented by attorney Pride Doran, while the State of Louisiana’s case will be presented to a 12 man jury by Evangeline Parish First Assistant District Attorney Marcus Fontenot. Presiding over the trial will be 13th Judicial District Judge Gary Ortego.
Hamous’ charges stem from an arrest made by the Mamou Police Department on June 15, 2017 after he ran from police during a routine traffic stop.
Once officers were able to apprehend Hamous, he was found to be in possession of 43 grams of a white rock like substance and $1,600.00 in cash.
In this matter, Hamous was charged with one count of aggravated flight from an officer, one count of resisting an officer, and one count of distribution/manufacture or possession with the intent of a schedule II controlled dangerous substance.
In court on Thursday, Hamous’ attorney announced that he would be filing a motion to suppress evidence in this case on Friday. The motion will be heard by Judge Ortego on Monday, April 16, 2018, before trial proceedings begin on Tuesday.
