I, Georgianna Wilson, am proud to announce my candidacy for reelection to the Evangeline Parish School Board representing District 13.
My background in education consists of earning a bachelor’s and then master’s degree from Southern University in Elementary Education. I then spent 32 years of my life as an educator in Evangeline Parish before retiring in 2004.
Following retirement, my passion for education and the children of Evangeline Parish remained strong. With my desire to continue to have a positive impact on the lives of the students in our parish, I gladly accepted the challenge to serve our communities in the capacity of school board member when I was chosen to represent District 13 as its board member on the Evangeline Parish School Board.
As a former educator, I understand the need to reward all of our employees for outstanding work. Therefore, I have strived to do just that as a school board member.
This has been proven through the reward systems we as a board have implemented recently with the pay raise we happily provided our employees with that will take affect this coming school year.
As an individual who once was the teacher in a classroom, I have also been afforded the opportunity to see first hand how important it is to prepare students for what comes after graduation. With this understanding, I have been able to see the need to provide the students of Evangeline Parish with the opportunity to gain college credits before graduating from high school. To meet that need, we as a board established a partnership with LSU-Eunice to create the LSUE Academy to allow high school students from Basile, Mamou, Pine Prairie, and Ville Platte to receive their high school diploma as well as an associate’s degree at the same time.
For our elementary and junior high students, I have been blessed to be a part of transforming the way children learn in today’s society where technology has become vital to the educational success of a child. We’ve moved the educational experience forward by developing a five-year plan to purchase Chrome Book computers for every student in Evangeline Parish by using funds from various sources to purchase Chrome Books and Carts for every school.
Education has always been my passion, which I believe is evident in the work I have been fortunate enough to do along with my fellow school board members.
I have always considered it a high honor being able to represent District 13, and if you, the constituents wish to continue our effort moving our education system forward, please reelect me, Georgianna Wilson (#55), as your voice on the Evangeline Parish School Board.
