On July 5, 2022, Deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in reference to a theft of a
gas operated sawmill that was stolen at the 1000 Blk. of Clayton Rd. During the investigation, Deputies received
information that a subject by the name of Dennis Randal Book was homeless, living in a wooded area off of Clayton Rd.
near Blood Bend Rd.
Local members of the community confronted Book in the woods not far from where parts of the stolen sawmill was
located. During that time, community members detained Book until Law Enforcement arrived on the scene. Shortly
after, Book was taken into custody by Sheriff Deputies for a probation and parole warrant. It was at that time that books
admitted to taking the sawmill and hiding it in the woods. Book was subsequently charged with Felony Theft and
Criminal Trespassing.
