Iota remains undefeated

LONGVILLE – The Knights of South Beauregard (1-1) were vanquished Thursday night, as the Iota Bulldogs cruised their way to a 28-0 win.

Last week, Iota (2-0) trounced late schedule change Lake Arthur 26-0.

Midway through the first quarter Thursday, senior quarterback Chad Abshire connected with Trenton Pickett for a 33-yard touchdown.

Abshire connected with Pickett again in the second quarter with a 23-yard touchdown pass.

Pickett kicked the extra point in both cases, allowing the Bulldogs to close the first half with a 14-0 lead.

Junior running back Brett Broussard carried the ball from the Knights 1 twice in the fourth quarter to seal Iota’s win.

Iota racked up 378 yards on offense while their defense limited South Beauregard to only 102 yards gained.

Abshire had seven completes out of 13 attempts, and added 131 passing yards to the Bulldogs’ game.

Abshire also had 40 rushing yards.

Broussard led the Bulldogs’ running game with 112 yards.

South Beauregard quarterback Richard Ivey completed six out of 14 yards for a total of 30 passing yards.

Dakota Cryer led the Knights in rushing yardage with 50 net yards.

Next week the Knights will host the Basile Bearcats; Iota will host the St. Edmund Blue Jays (1-0).
