The Ville Platte Volunteer Fire Department held its Annual Awards Night in February. The awards night is something held yearly to honor the top volunteer and paid firefighters. Awards were given to the top 10 volunteer firefighters with the most calls for 2014 and to the top paid firefighter with the most off-duty calls for 2014.

Bulldogs end season with first round loss

Ville Platte High’s Alex Gooden proved to be a key asset for the Bulldogs in the successful 2014-15 hardwood campaign.

Ville Platte High came into the bi-district round of the playoffs on a six-game win streak. The Bulldogs hoped to carry that momentum on the road as they faced off against Madison High Friday night.

Panthers fall to Bearkats in bi-district play

Pine Prairie back court player Douglas Fontenot brought the tenacity needed for the Panther’s district title season.

Out of all the teams that Pine Prairie could have faced in the first round of the playoffs, the Bossier Bearkats were probably not on the top of the Panther wish list. Since 2009, the Bearkats had been to the Top 28 six years in a row, even winning the state title in 2011.

Trojan baseball team picks up first win

In one of the few games able to be played around the area due to weather conditions, the Sacred Heart Trojans picked up their first baseball win of the season. The Trojans used a six-run first inning to propel themselves to a 12-2 win over the Marksville Tigers.
