Reading is one of the essentials of early childhood education, and among those having success locally by offering recognition was James Stephens Montessori first and second grade teacher Therese Phillips.

Nick LeBas was named Man of the Year and accepts his award from Camille Fontenot.

The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce had its most successful annual banquet on Wednesday, April 29, with an attendance of at least 250 people at the North Side Civic Center.
The storms that passed through Louisiana earlier this week brought with them damaging winds approaching hurricane-force of 70 mph southeast of Evangeline Parish, around Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Sheriff's office reports seven recent arrests

The Mamou Police Department reported seven recent bookings into the town jail. Arrested were the following persons:
•Anthanial Miller, 47, 1916 James Ortego Lane, Mamou, was charged April 29, with theft. Miller bonded out of jail the same day.
