Six new queens and three kings were selected on Saturday, March 21, at the 2015 Boggy Bayou Youth Pageant held at the fairgrounds. They will be presented at the Queen’s Pageant set for Saturday, April 11, during the 31st Boggy Bayou Festival in Pine Prairie.

Stephen Lafleur, who was wanted by Mamou police for allegedly beating a woman with a gun and shooting at her vehicle on Monday, has turned himself in. Lafleur’s alleged victim reported that her daughter was at the scene when the incident occurred and Mamou police began searching for him.

For the second time in a three-day span the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans have dropped a district contest to the Catholic of Pointe Coupee Lady Hornets. On Tuesday, the Lady Trojans fell to Catholic 4-1 in New Roads.

Panthers fall to Livonia in district contest

Going into Thursday’s game against the Livonia Wildcats, the Pine Prairie Panthers were a perfect 2-0 in district play. Despite leading after four innings, the Panthers gave up seven runs in the fifth inning to fall 9-4 to the Wildcats.

Lafleur talks to James Stephens students

Third and fourth graders at James Stephens Montessori School heard from State Senator Eric LaFleur Friday morning. Elementary Cunselor Sheila Lawson invited LaFleur to speak as part of the school’s program of introducing students to different components of their communities.

Parish principal, teacher make semi-finals in state educational honors

James Stephens Montessori Principal Cheri Fontenot, left, and Brandi Marcantel, a Vidrine Elementary teacher, will receive top honors at a special Evangeline Parish School Board recognition ceremony Wednesday and are in the running for top state honors. During the program Evangeline Parish School Superintendent Toni Hamlin will recognize them as 2015-16 Elementary Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year State Semi-Finalists.

The Evanngeline Parish School District will have a special event Wednesday, April 1, at 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be held for Roy James Thomas, 50, at the Owens-Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew Cemetery.
