Residents and staff of Heritage Manor Nursing Home held its annual big Christmas party Wednesday afternoon, December 17. Many gifts were presented and much food was enjoyed, as well as live Cajun music. A great time was had by all.

On December 16, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Ville Platte Police Department responded to a call reporting shots fired on East Beech Street. Upon arrival, officers found Franco Doucet lying on the ground and learned that he had been shot.

Rendevous arson trial postponed until June 8

The trial of John Deville on arson charges involving the fire that destroyed the Rondevous Dinner Club last year has been postponed until June 8, in order for court documents to be finalized.

Tournament play opens in Pine Prairie Wednesday

The Pine Prairie Panthers and Lady Panthers opened play in their annual tournament on Wednesday. A total of seven boys and seven girls’ teams came to Pine Prairie to vie for the championship title, which will be decided on Saturday.

Pine Prairie sweeps Sacred Heart in non-district play

The Pine Prairie Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted the Sacred Heart basketball squads on Tuesday night in non-district play. The Lady Panthers shot lights out in a 42-39 win. The Panthers scored double figures in every quarter in an 80-73 win.

Demons come up short in overtime loss to Bears

The Mamou Demons travelled to Church Point on Tuesday to take on the Bears. The Demons overcame a slow start to tie the game in the fourth quarter. The effort to send the game into overtime drained Mamou, as they fell 62-59 in the extra period.

Man wanted for Ville Platte murder captured in Texas

Authorities in Texas have captured a man wanted in the July 22, 2013, shooting death of 32-year-old Joseph John of Ville Platte, who was shot in front of a relative's home.

Cabot employees collect 800 pounds of clothing

Rhonda Deshotels’ office is taken over by some 800 pounds of clothing donated by Cabot Corporation employees. Shown here are most of the clothing. More bags of clothing fill a closet and are piled up in other parts of her office.

Cabot Corporation employees Rhonda Deshotels and Monica Aucoin wanted to find a new way to help the community during the holidays, so they went to the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way to get some ideas.

A new election for Turkey Creek mayor has been set for February 21. Candidates in the election are again incumbant Heather Cloud and Bert Campbell.

Funeral services were held for Roy Ledoux Fontenot, 97, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 18. Burial followed in the Old Ville Platte Cemetery.
